Our Core Beliefs

Founded as a United Methodist Church in 1955, Community Church disaffiliated from the United Methodist denomination on June 1, 2023.

Community Church’s vision is to be Living Proof of a Loving God to a Watching World. This vision is characterized by the pursuit of real life with each other, full life with God, and Kingdom life on earth.  Members vow to support this vision with our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. 

In support of this vision, Community is committed to values that establish who we are.  These values have grown and developed over Community’s history.

  1. We have a high view of Christ and a high view of Scripture.  These views give direction to our worship and teaching.  We believe Jesus is the only Son of God fully divine, fully human.  We believe the Bible is inspired and authoritative revealing plainly God’s plan for living.  Our worship and teaching flow from these two central convictions. 
  2. We have a high view of prayer in the life of the disciple and the church.  Prayer is the life-source of a growing disciple and a faithful church.  We believe daily time with God in prayer and corporate opportunities for prayer are essential to healthy and vibrant discipleship.  This priority is essential to seeing the Awakening we are laboring for as a church.
  3. We believe the primary context of discipleship is community.  We are called to grow in Christlikeness together.  Relationships characterized by belonging, encouragement, truth-telling, love, and grace are essential to growing as a follower of Jesus.  Our church family is characterized by a deep sense of community.
  4. We are committed to living our lives on mission.  Jesus has sent us even as he was sent.  We are committed to living 24/7 on mission for Christ.  We believe Acts 1:8 compels us to go into our Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth.  We believe that the most effective way to do this is in partnership with those who are serving effectively next door and around the world. 
  5. We are committed to investing in the next generation.  Ministry with kids, students, college, and young adults is a priority for us. If we are to turn the tide of declining commitment to faith in our country, this is an essential priority.  We believe investing in next generation leaders and leading alongside them is essential to the future health of The Church and its vision. 
  6. We have a high priority for the Kingdom of Christ.  Our priority is for the Kingdom to Christ to be expanded and multiplied.  This priority is at the forefront of our decision making and strategic thinking.
